Training Philosophy

Here at Ozark Tails Co., our goal is to establish clear communication and easy management between you and your dog. Understanding your dog’s physical and social behavior is the most fundamental part of the lesson to learn. Canine social behavior, as well as body language, will give you clear insight into the ways your pet is trying to communicate with you.

Instead of traditional dog obedience which strictly trains the dog, Ozark Tails seeks to train the owners on how to communicate with their pet, as well as how to train the dog. This philosophy empowers the owner to be able to problem-solve with the animal on their own rather than be held to a strict rule-based training system.

Specific Development Plans are used to establish the pet owner’s role as the “leader of the pack”. This essentially means that if the owner does not establish leadership, the animal will. Leadership is not punishment, but Is the law of the pack. It is instinctively understood by all dogs. By showing boundaries to the dog in a very responsible, consistent way, you are setting the dog at ease because he/she knows their place in the pack and knows they are protected by their owner.

When everyone is on the same page, it is much easier to understand why the dog is doing what it’s doing. Most of the time when a dog has some type of behavioral outburst, it is because they are trying to communicate with you in the only way they know how. If the owners are taught not only why the dog is acting out, but also ways to analyze future actions by the dog then the training sessions are allowing the owner to have a more sophisticated method of communication/interaction with their dog. Communication in the animal world works in two different ways. One element is an understanding of the dog’s behavior and the other is ways the owner can clearly communicate to their pet.
